MEDIA ADVISORY:
TYSONS TUNNEL RALLY SET FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10
Attendees will hear the latest news and benefits of tunnel vs. elevated-rail
at community event
Tysons Corner, Va. (February 8, 2007) – TysonsTunnel.org—a diverse and unprecedented coalition of community, private-citizen and business groups—will hold a public, family-friendly rally on Saturday, February 10 to raise support and awareness of the major movement to build a Metrorail tunnel under Tysons Corner.
During the rally, attendees will be updated on the benefits of competitive bidding for construction of a tunnel under Tysons Corner as opposed to the current plan to sole-source construction of elevated-rail through the growing business, residential, and shopping district. These benefits include significant taxpayer cost-savings, considerable construction time-savings and a massive reduction of traffic-inducing construction impacts. Attendees also will hear the latest news from Federal Transit Administration (FTA) about the status of funding the project and meet leaders of the TysonsTunnel.org coalition, elected public officials, other community and business leaders as well as concerned citizens who support building a tunnel for the Metrorail extension through Tysons Corner.
The family-friendly event will include food, games and other activities for kids and adults. It is free and open to the public. Members of the public interested in attending should RSVP at http://www.tysonstunnel.org.
